Does your level need to be sent in to us for repair?

The vials are the only part on the Plumb-It Level that must be replaced at our factory. Any other part can be purchased separately and most are easily installed.

The wait times for repairs as of September 2024 is 8-10 weeks.

If your level needs any parts aside from the vials, it will be a quicker turnaround to install the replacement parts yourself.

FIRST: Check your feet. Are they loose, warped, or broken?

Are all 3 of the beams straight? If any 1 rail is bent or warped, it will throw off the reading of your level.

If your beams are straight, click here to see methods for checking your vials for accuracy.

PLEASE NOTE: VIAL REPLACEMENT MUST BE DONE BY ONE OF OUR SPECIALISTS. VIALS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR INDIVIDUAL SALE, TAMPERING VOIDS WARRANTY.

Once you have determined your issue, decide which solution will work best for you:

Option #1: Order the appropriate replacement part, and install yourself.

We offer the following for individual sale, to be installed on your level, hopefully restoring it to factory-fresh function:

  • Replacement Foot Kit - PF-1 - ($23 each, plus shipping)

  • Replacement Handle Assembly - PH-1 -  ($30 each, plus shipping)

  • Replacement Handle Plastic Only - PH-Plastic - ($12 each, plus shipping)

  • Replacement Sliding Rail - PIR-4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 8.0 - (see Parts and Cases for pricing)

  • VIALS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR INDIVIDUAL SALE-- TAMPERING WILL VOID LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY.

Option #2: Send your level in to our Repair Department and we will fix it for you.

If you choose to send it in to us:

  • One of our specialists will inspect and evaluate every aspect of your level.

  • We will then call you with an estimate for bringing your level back to factory specifications.

  •  At that point, you can tell us whether you'd like to:

    • approve the cost for us to fix it,

    • buy a rebuilt level, at a price discounted from full retail, or

    • cover the cost of shipping for us to return your level to you as-is.

  •  DISTRIBUTORS CANNOT REPLACE OR RECALIBRATE VIALS. It is a highly specialized tool, and only those few who have been trained in our shop have the knowledge and experience necessary to set our vials correctly.

  • THE LIFETIME WARRANTY ON YOUR VIALS WILL BE VOID IN THE EVENT OF UNAUTHORIZED TAMPERING. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPLACE OR RE-SET VIALS.

  • Repairs are only a small percentage of the work done at our factory. Due to this, and our short-staffing, we are experiencing extended wait times on repairs. Your patience is appreciated.

How to ship your level to our Repair Department:

  • Find a length of cardboard as close to the length of your level as possible and approximately 30" wide.

  • Align your level lengthwise with an edge of the width, taping the edge of the cardboard along the straight edge of your level.

  • Now, roll your level and cardboard until your level is safely contained within-- sort of like a Plumb-It Extendable Level Burrito. Be sure cardboard is tightly secured around your level.

  • Be sure to include your name, mailing address, email address, and phone number.  This will enable us to contact you once we have your estimate. Without it, this process becomes much more difficult and time consuming.

  • SHIP TO:

    • Repairs Department

    • Plumb-It, Inc.

    • 3045 N. Dodge Blvd.

    • Tucson, AZ 85716

  • Direct outlets of UPS, FEDEX, or even the US Post Office are the most reasonably priced and secure to send your level to us.

  • Completed repairs that are left unclaimed for 30 days after completion will become property of Plumb-It, Inc.

VIAL-CHECKING METHODS
METHODS FOR CHECKING THE ACCURACY OF YOUR VIALS

Method 1. Using the bubble itself as a witness (methods a->c)
a. Select two outstanding points, roughly the length of your level that its ends can be rested against and the vials easily read (a door jamb or its hinge pins protruding beyond the door, or a nail or screw in the bottom plate of a fire blocked stud bay will work)
Place the level against the points and read it. Note the bubbles location, rotate the level edge for edge (not end for end) and read it again. If the bubble is not in the same location in relation to the reference lines, the error is _ the distance they differ.

b. You can also draw a line (one end at a fixed point, the other end receiving the line) that represents a centered bubble from your levels 1st edge. Rotate the level and draw a second line. Any error is the distance between the two lines.
c. Also, using one fixed point as baseline, move your level sideways until the bubble just touches its reference line , draw a pencil line along your levels working edge. Spin the level and do the same using the bubbles other reference line. The distance between the two lines is the bubbles error. A centerline between the two lines should be perfectly plumb.

Method 2. Using a plumb Line
Using a plumb line (fine wire or fishing line) is another way to check your levels vials.

Since it’s hard to get your level against the line, hang the plumb line about 1-1/2” away from a wall, use a light placed perpendicular to the wall to project the line (use a fine wire, string, or fishing line to give the clearest line). Use a sharp pencil to mark points along the projected line.

Remove the plumb line. Hold your level’s edge(s) to the points and check the vial for centeredness. This only works for plumb vials (not horizontals).
